Becoming a Bird with Sarah Haviland

Before this workshop, join us for a guided birdwatching walk from11:30 AM–1 PM. We’ll explore the different avian habitats of the Langlais Preserve, see what spring migratory birds are in our midst, and learn to recognize songs and calls with a local birder. Consider bringing a picnic to enjoy before the 2 PM workshop!

For Becoming a Bird, Sarah Haviland will lead us in a hands-on exploration of our fascination with birds, from sharing stories to creating small sculptures. After a local bird walk and discussion of our avian connections, participants will use recycled and natural materials to create expressive visual qualities of their chosen bird. Materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own collected papers or lightweight found objects.

About Sarah: Based in the Lower Hudson Valley, NY, Sarah Haviland (she/her) is a sculptor and mixed-media artist whose work focuses on mythology, human-bird connections, and the natural world. She and her family have been a part of Cushing life for four decades. https://www.sarahhaviland.net/

Watershed Workshops have a pay what you can ($5+) registration fee, to help offset materials costs. If this fee is a barrier, please get in touch with us at langlais@grlt.org—we want everyone who is interested to be able to participate.
