Craftsperson Gabrielle Brown joins Rachel for an in-depth exploration of the edible and fiber producing plants of the coastal shoreline at a nearby Cushing preserve. Back in the Langlais Teaching Studio, Gabrielle will guide participants through the process of weaving handheld cattail baskets. Afterwards, participants will partake in a shared wild food picnic among the sculptures featuring Rachel’s preparations of Maine’s finest coastal treats, such as sea radish pickles, green spanakopita, and seaweed snacks.
About Gabrielle: Gabrielle Brown is a maker, gardener, and educator currently based in Midcoast Maine. Her practice is rooted in a formal craft background and guided by reverence for food and ritual. While her work spans many methods and materials, basketry is something she returns to often.
